Hi there, Im just a bit confused and would love some help on something ... My son is breastfed and is now on 3 solid meals a day aswell. With his breakfast I used to mix his porridge in the morning with water and then add in some fruit puree. The last 3 weeks I have given him milk instead of water. Not breastmilk, normal cows milk. Its normally 2 - 3 tablespoons mixed in. I thought this was fine as he is still breastfed and isnt having the cows milk as a whole food, rather a mix in with his meal. He has yoghurt & cheese so I just assumed that cows milk was fine in small amounts. I was just at the local Health Clinic having him weighed and we got on the subject and she said its not recommended and normally babies shouldnt have it until they're 12months. She also said to give Formula instead with his porridge as it has added iron, etc. Now im SO confused! Why would I start giving my son formula now, he is almost 9months old! And to be honest, I dont want to, he's never had it and its just another expense that I feel isnt necessary. Besides, the cereal has added iron anyway! She went on to say cows milk can cause constipation and vomiting because of the proteins in it but my son is absolutely fine, his poo is normal and he doesnt vomit huge amounts either. Am I doing the wrong thing? Should I stop giving him cows milk? Does anyone else do the formula milk thing added into foods? Also, I would use my breastmilk mixed in but can never express enough nor have the time. Thanks in advance for you help! Hope you dont mind reading a novel!! :)
